PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
PROJECT SNAPSHOT is an 18 week (Tuesdays, September 15 - May 11) black and white photography program split into two sections:
SNAPSHOT 101, where students will explore the fundamentals of analog film photography, including shooting 35mm, processing film, and proofing+ printing in the darkroom. This section will run from September 15 - December 8.
SNAPSHOT PROJECTS, where students will focus on storytelling, developing their creative voice, and refining their darkroom skills. This section will run from January 19 - May 11.
(Completing SNAPSHOT 101 is required to take SNAPSHOT PROJECTS. All returning Project Snapshot students can take this course.)
Students will utilize traditional and experimental photographic methods to portray their own visual interpretations of the world around them. Students will also explore various traditional and contemporary styles and approaches to photographic storytelling by learning directly from guest speakers, all of whom are practicing and established photographers in a variety of fields. Each student will be encouraged to find their own unique, personal artistic voice in order to create a body of photographic work that will be shared with the public via online and gallery exhibitions.
By the end of the class, students will be able to demonstrate mastery of the analog photographic process including 35 mm camera functions, film processing, and making photographic prints in the darkroom. Instruction will be delivered through presentations, demonstrations and hands-on application. Elements and Principles of Design, composition, proper exposure and final presentation will be covered, in addition to class critiques and discussions regarding their photographic imagery.
ATTENDANCE:
We ask that all students who have sign up check in every Tuesday from 4:30pm – 6:30pm. The lab opens at 4pm, where the instructor will be present and ready to get students started. The lab will be open until 9pm for students who wish to work longer or need to wait for pick up.
While this class bears no cost to students, it is a commitment. In order to get the most out of the experience, we ask that students come to each of the 9 classes of any given section. If you cannot make it, please contact the instructor via the CPR line: 216-389-8756. Students are able to make up missed time or put in extra hours any time the lab is open.
