Photobooth as Practice: AIR Talk + Open Studio

Please join us on August 22 from 2-5 pm at Scamp Studios, to celebrate the close of our ‘Photobooth as Practice’ Residency Program with Jen Grasso and her colleagues. Together, they steward Photobooth Technicians, an international project servicing photobooths worldwide and building community around their rich cultural histories and contemporary creative applications.

Jen Grasso and her colleagues will be facilitating a presentation on their individual and collective practices, the history and varied uses of photobooths across time, and how photobooths can (and do) exist in today's creative ecosystem, worldwide and in Cleveland. The artists’ presence is integral to the reactivation of our own photobooth, which will be permanently installed and available to the community in our new Cleveland Print Room building, set to open in 2027.

The presentation will be followed by a public reception and open studio serving as a participatory ‘demonstration of process’. We invite you to engage with the artists and learn more about photobooths through the work and materials gathered and produced throughout the residency via the repair process and studio sessions with the intergenerational cohort of artists and photographers who spent a week learning from and creating alongside them. Participants will also be able to engage directly with the booth and walk away with a one-of-a-kind photo booth strip.
