Anthropocene: The Age of Humans

Anthropocene is the unofficially-named current epoch during which human activities have made a significant impact on the Earth's ecosystem, and is based on the assumption that the environment is now altered by humans. The work included in this group exhibition represent humans and their relationship with the natural world. Some of the work will look at the relationship between the environment and human rights. Artists Tom Laffay, Michael Loderstedt, and Oscar Palacio will each feature their individual projects. Poets Kisha Nicole Foster and Nicki Wilkins will share their work, and there will be a performance by the Elu Dance Company.

Native Clevelander, Tom Laffay's "Defender" project photographically documents stories that bring attention to the critical work brave men and women carry out defending their communities and environment in South America.

Cleveland artist, Michael Loderstedt is creating a new body of work that compares the parasitic cowbird to an ancestor that was left on a doorstep through the medium of photography, including the use of alternative processes.

Oscar Palacio's Walden Then and Now series will be shown. This exhibition looks at the path around iconic Walden Pond before and after humans altered the landscape and environment. Palacio is a Colombian-born, Boston-based photographer whose work explores the role of photographic representation in relationship to history, memory, identity, and place.

Cleveland poet Kisha Nicole Foster will present new work as part of this show. Additionally, native Clevelander poet and photographer Nicki Wilkins will exhibit poetry and photography created in Scotland where she has lived since 2004.

The Print Room's five year anniversary exhibition will feature workshops and guest speakers on this theme while the show is up in the gallery.

Additionally, In a nod to our first exhibition on January 13, 2013, 'Wecome to Hard Times ' which featured a solo show by artist Vaughn Wascovich, we will present some of his latest work on our new WALL 5.
